Kirra Idella Drury, of Ventura, CA passed away in a boating accident in the Colorado River 9/1/18. She was 23 years old. Kirra was this community, this nation and this world’s. #STARGIRLSTRONG. To honor her, our family has taken the first steps in developing a campaign to educate both children, teens and adults about Cyber-bullying. Bullying takes on many forms and during Kirra’s short life, she was the victim of bullying and Cyber-bullying both as a child and recently as an adult. Kirra was able to overcome and spread her love and light with those around her. She became a role model to her peers and was loved greatly in this community.
We originally created the #STARGIRLSTRONG bracelets to spread hope as we waited for her to be found. The book Stargirl, by Jerry Spinelli, was one of Kirra’s favorite book which “celebrates the power of individuality and personal expression.” This bracelet is now a symbol to remind us to be true to ourselves, to be kind to others and to not gossip and fill in the blanks. It is a reminder to be mindful of what we say on the internet, and understand that once it is posted it never really goes away.
All proceeds from the donations of the #STARGIRLSTRONG bracelet will go towards an anti cyber-bullying campaign. Our family appreciates the outpouring from this community, this nation and this world. Let’s not let our beautiful Star Girl be forgotten as we aspire to be more like her. We will update this site as we gain new information going forward.
